Marcas, the Marine Contracting Association,
has appointed Simon Hemper to the role of Managing
Director, with the task of further developing
the membership base and expanding the range of
contracts available.
Marcas was established in 1999 with the purpose
of aggregating shipowners’ and managers’ purchasing
volume to obtain maximum value goods and services.
Current members include BP Shipping, V.Ships,
Eletson, Stelmar, Efshipping Co Sa / Efnav Company
Ltd, Fouquet Sacop Group, Marenostrum Lda, and
Portunato & Co s.r.l, with over 40 contracts
in place covering lubes, chemicals / gases, paints,
communications, crew travel, spares, D&A testing
and fuel analysis. The group, comprising over
350 ships, represents an annualised purchasing
volume of over $100m.
Simon Hemper joins Marcas from MIE, a Cyprus-based
marine supplies agency. Prior to joining MIE,
Simon worked for Hamworthy KSE as Sales and Marketing
Manager. He began his career with P&O as an
engineering cadet.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Hemper said
: “The name MARCAS explicitly describes the role
– Marine Contracting Association - the aim is
to be just that, the ultimate association to belong
to for the best possible contracts in the marine
industry.”

has been for some time, now it needs rolling out
to more owners and managers in close conjunction
with key suppliers, to create a solid long-term
liaison for all parties.”

Based out of Limassol, Cyprus, Marcas is also
increasingly involved in assisting its members
with dry-docking and repair facilities, underlining
its commitment to broaden its range of contract
products and services.
